With the continuous advancement of communication equipment technology,
the protection requirements for switching and user equipment have also been greatly increased.
Protect telephone lines with PTC thermistors, mainly against the following causes of overcurrent phenomenon:
direct lightning strikes or lightning strikes near the telephone line equipment caused by the surge current;
Ac induced voltage caused by failure of adjacent power lines or railway systems; Telephone line and power line lap;
Usually each telephone line is connected in series with a PTC thermistor, see Figure 1,
and even with primary protection (usually a gas discharge tube), the PTC thermistor must meet strict requirements. Due to voltage pulses of up to 2 kV,
PTC thermistors must have high voltage resistance in order to withstand short-term induced voltages.
If there is primary protection in the line, the PTC thermistor voltage of 200V~300V is enough,
there is no primary protection in the line, and the PTC thermistor voltage must be above 600V.
